太極拳動作緩慢、均勻、柔和是訓練腿力及身體各環節放鬆的基本功,尤其是單腿支撐身體重心的時間,至少要在30-40秒後,才進行兩腿之間的虛實轉換,這是訓練大腿股四頭肌的肌耐力,及增強心肺功能,培養各環節輕靈與鬆柔的要訣。一般人往往在熟練太極拳法後,就忘記雙腿虛實轉換必須有定數,只求外在動作的流暢與優美,反而失去太極拳訓練法原有的初衷。
由單鞭完成式,提手、右靠、白鶴亮翅、摟膝拗步等動作,是訓練兩腿虛實轉換的最佳方式之一,值得反覆練習。

The slow, even, and gentle movements of Tai Chi are fundamental for training leg strength and relaxing various parts of the body. Notably, when supporting the body's center of gravity on a single leg, one should maintain this position for at least 30 to 40 seconds before transitioning between empty and solid weight on both legs. This practice helps develop the endurance of the quadriceps and enhances cardiovascular function while cultivating lightness and relaxation in the body.
Often, practitioners, after becoming proficient in Tai Chi, may forget that the transition between empty and solid weight on both legs requires a specific timing. Instead, they focus solely on the external fluidity and beauty of the movements, thus losing sight of the original intent of Tai Chi training.
Movements such as Single Whip, Raising Hands, Right Lean, White Crane Spreads Wings, and Brush Knee Twist Step are among the best ways to practice the transition of weight between both legs and are worth repeated practice.
