The Essence of Yi Jian Tai Chi
The Essence of Yi Jian Tai Chi
Yi Jian Tai Chi was created by Grandmaster Song Zhijian, and its key principle is to demonstrate the profound applications of the Yin-Yang transformations from the I Ching. As stated in the Tai Chi Classics: "Yin does not separate from Yang, Yang does not separate from Yin. Only when Yin and Yang mutually support each other can one truly understand energy."
- "Yi" (simplicity) corresponds to Heaven and symbolizes cyclical movement and change.
- "Jian" (humility) corresponds to Earth and symbolizes yielding and stillness.
In the context of Tai Chi, "Yi Jian" refers to the body's balance between movement and stillness, emptiness and fullness, hardness and softness. During push hands practice, the hands exhibit movement and stillness, the feet express emptiness and fullness, and the body naturally reflects the balance of hardness and softness. Movement and stillness, emptiness and fullness, and hardness and softness all complement each other, embodying the subtle workings of Yin and Yang within.
