  • 👉 Dao is the source (本源) behind everything.

Blunt the sharpness, untangle the knots.

👉 Meaning:

  • Do not be aggressive or overly sharp (銳氣)

  • Dissolve conflicts and complications (紛亂)

➡️ This reflects 柔 (softness) and 無爭 (non-contention)

  • 同其塵 (merge with the ordinary world):與世俗同處

👉 Meaning:

  • Hide one's brilliance (不露鋒芒)

  • Live harmoniously within society

➡️ This is the idea of 內明而外晦 (inner clarity, outer humility)

So clear and deep, as if it exists.

  • 👉 Dao is subtle—seemingly present yet intangible

I do not know whose child it is.

  • 👉 Dao has no origin we can identify
    → It is beyond causation

It seems to precede even God (帝).

(Supreme being / God)

  • 👉 Dao existed before all creation

🧠 Core Concept Summary

This chapter describes Dao as:

  • 虛而不竭 (empty but inexhaustible)
